Do you love to kickbox, or are you an exercise and workout fanatic? If you are, you will find that your body is still longing for these activities even if you are already pregnant.
While some sports and forms of exercises are considered safe even for pregnant women, there are also those that are not recommended during this time in a woman’s life.
If kickboxing is your type of exercise program you should think hard and consult with your doctor first before engaging in this type of workout regimen.
This is a contact sport and the medical field is only recommending sports that are light and non-contact for pregnant moms.
Can I Kickbox While Pregnant? Answer: No.
It is not safe to kickbox while one is pregnant with a child. This is very dangerous for the baby inside your womb, as you can get kicked in the belly by your sparring partner. With the pressure and impact of a kick, you can immediately suffer from bleeding and lose your baby. And even if you don’t suffer from a miscarriage, the constant trauma can also result in serious birth defects when your child is finally delivered.
Some doctors would still give you the clearance to kickbox, however, as the conditions differ with each pregnancy. If you are simply using kickboxing as a form of exercise and are not getting beaten up in the process, then it could be allowed to a certain degree.
Benefits of Exercising
Exercising is beneficial whether you are pregnant or not, and this should always be included in your daily routine. This is especially true if you are having a normal pregnancy and are not at risk for early pre-term labor. Exercising will keep you fit and trim and this process will provide you with a natural source of energy.
Through regular exercise, some of the discomforts attributed to pregnancy can also be reduced. Your back ache problems, cramps and abdominal issues will be reduced and you will be sleeping better too. By having less things to worry about and having an overall great feeling all throughout your body, your stress level will be minimized and this is beneficial to you and your baby as well.
The right forms of exercises are even linked to aiding in the delivery of babies. It is like a form of preparation for giving birth, and you will find that your labor pains are more manageable if you have regularly exercised during your pregnancy.
Precautions to Exercising While Pregnant
Only low-impact and non-contact forms of exercises are recommended for pregnant women. Walking, stretching, yoga, and breathing exercises are extremely safe. As long as you are always wearing the right types of supportive clothes and footwear, these activities really don’t present any problems to the baby inside your womb. Just make sure that you are careful about your balance as the center of gravity changes inside your body while your baby grows and develops. You should also consciously hydrate yourself, as your condition is prone to dehydration especially when you engage in physical activities.
And don’t overdo the exercises and workout routines too, no matter how simple the routines are. Remember, you are pregnant, and your body’s joints are starting to loosen up in preparation for child birth. Listen to your body, as it will tell you when to stop and take a rest. When you kickbox, it is inherently too intensive, and therefore should be avoided.
Types of Exercise Routines that Should Be Avoided
Aside from kickboxing, horseback riding, skiing, and weight-lifting are just some of the sports and activities that you should be avoiding too. If you notice, these are all high-impact activities. They expose your baby to trauma and the chances of you getting hurt are quite high too. So if you want to avoid complications and if you want to ensure your baby’s safety, you should avoid engaging to these sports and other similar activities.
Say No to Kickboxing
Again, we are saying no to kickboxing. It’s a pretty wild sport that involves some heavy kicking and force. If you are really an exercise buff and would like to continue being active even while pregnant, you can still engage in other less vigorous types of workout routines. Aerobics is one type of program that you can consider, it can help you feel more energized and it won’t pose any health issues to your baby too.
