If you’re planning a trip to Disneyland or Disney World you are probably going to wish you weren’t pregnant. That’s because some of the best rides are a no-go when you are expecting. The good thing is you can still have an enjoyable trip, and all the rides are clearly marked as to whether they are okay for pregnant women.
The executives at Disney definitely want your business as a soon-to-be mom because they know that the little bun in your oven is going to be a future consumer of their DVDs, plush stuffed animals, and will probably one day bring their own children to their theme parks. That means they have made the park accessible to you while you are expecting a baby, and you should still have an enjoyable and memorable time, even without going on things like Space Mountain or the Matterhorn Bobsleds.
Most of the time you can trust your instincts on a ride and know whether or not you will like it, and whether or not it is safe for your baby. There are a few no-brainers, like anything with a freefall, anything that involves a lot of jarring motions, and anything that says right on it that it is not recommended for pregnant women.
Can I Go on Rides at Disneyland While Pregnant? Answer: Check the Ride
This is not to say that you can’t go on any rides while you’re there. The ‘it’s a small world’ ride is gentle enough, and will give you those good feelings that you need, and also reassure you that you are bringing your child into a world that is not so bad. But be careful because it is one of the longer rides, so if you are having problems with incontinence you may want to hold off on it.
Some pregnant moms to be will also like to go on the Dumbo ride, but if you are having problems with morning sickness this could present a problem because it just involves spinning around in a circle. That’s why a lot of women avoid the Teacups which induce that that dizzy feeling.
Trust Your Gut
There are so many different types of pregnancies, with some women being high risk, and others being low-risk, that there is no across-the-board answer as far as which rides you can go on and which ones you should avoid. This is where your instincts play a part and you will know what to avoid and what is okay. What you don’t want to have happen is to get on a ride and then be stuck on it without a good way of getting off. If you feel like this is going to happen on a ride, it is best not to get on in the first place.
There’s Plenty to See and Do
But all is not lost just because you can’t go on a few select rides. There are still a ton of other things you can do while at the park, and the simple joy of watching your family have a good time can be enough to make it worthwhile. You can also become the strategic group leader that makes sure everyone has a great time and goes on as many rides as possible, maximizing their enjoyment. It’s all in how you frame it, and if you look at it selfishly like you can’t do this or can’t do that, you probably won’t have a good time.
But if you take the opportunity to make the most out of it and have a good time no matter what, you will likely find that you have a great time, and have a new appreciation for all the things that are available to you. You can interact with all of the different characters, and get a signature book, having all of the costumed characters sign it so that you have a nice souvenir later. This is something that you usually don’t get around to doing if you are busy going on all the rides.
While it is true that you might not be able to join in with your family on all of the fun, you don’t have to be a fuddy-duddy either, and can still have fun, just a different sort of fun than you might have had in the past.
