7UP used to advertise itself as an all natural soda, so you might think it’s something you can drink while pregnant, but it’s good that you’re doing your research on it. Turns out some health advocacy groups successfully challenged the company to stop making those claims on the grounds of what it actually contains.
When you’re thirsty while you’re pregnant, the best thing to do is drink water. Water is the only beverage on the planet that can hydrate you. Everything else will leave you more dehydrated than when you started and that includes 7UP. You don’t want to be in a dehydrated state while you’re pregnant. That’s why in addition to giving up soft drinks, you should also give up
You might think that 7UP is okay because it is caffeine free, but it contains so much sugar that you will be throwing your blood sugar levels out of balance, experience a sugar high, and and of course a sugar low. While not as bad as the energy drinks on the market, it’s still something that is not recommended while you’re pregnant because it’s not doing you or you baby any favors.
Can I Drink 7UP While Pregnant? Answer: Not Recommended
You have to realize that these giant food and beverage corporations do not have people’s health in their minds, and are definitely not thinking about pregnant women when they make their products. It’s all about the bottom line with them, and cutting costs, and increasing profits. You don’t want to trust your own health, let alone the health of your baby into their hands, so don’t drink something like 7UP just because they claim it’s all natural.
For a while 7UP ran an ad campaign saying their product only contained 7 all-natural ingredients. There’s nothing natural about High Fructose Corn Syrup. They’ve since changed their slogans to say that they have all-natural flavors, but this is also questionable. They have natural “tasting” flavors, because it tastes like lemons and limes, but these are not naturally sourced from real lemons and real limes, but chemically produced in a lab to taste this way.
High Fructose Corn Syrup
The reason 7UP doesn’t have the right to say they’re all natural is because it includes High Fructose Corn Syrup, one of the worst things you can put into your body at any time, not just when you’re pregnant. This is a man-made product that food and beverage manufacturers use to make things super sweet. The problem lies in that the body has no off switch for this type of sugar, the way it does for naturally based things. That’s why you can drink a 20oz Coke or Pepsi and still be able to drink or eat other sweet things. If they used real sugar cane based sugar in those, you wouldn’t even be able to finish the whole 20oz and would definitely not want anything sweet afterward.
What About Diet 7UP?
If you think it’d be a good idea to go with the diet version instead, and miss out on HFCS, you’re mistaken. Artificial sweeteners are even worse for you, and that includes things like Stevia. These are all chemically made, and very unnatural for your body. Your baby deserves a natural environment while they’re being incubated. Scientists are finding new evidence all the time that artificial sweeteners are not good, can be cancer-causing, and have their own health complications associated with them.
Go on a Health Kick
If you’re used to drinking sodas and soft drinks, you might have to make some changes while you’re pregnant. You shouldn’t be drinking your calories, and you shouldn’t be drinking diet sodas, so you should pretty much stick with water and the occasional herbal tea. Even if you yourself aren’t very healthy most of the time wen you’re not pregnant, you have to pull it together for 9 months or more here so that you don’t start your baby off on the wrong foot in life.
There’s a debate as to how your choices now effect your baby’s choices as an adult, but why take the chance. It makes sense that if they’re raised on sugary food in the womb, that this would make up a part of their being later life.
